Educator, applied linguist, and researcher

Abby Porter Mack

Language and language teaching gained my interest after I first visited Chihuahua, Mexico when I was in high school, which led me to pursue a Bachelor's degree in Spanish. I gained experience as a licensed Spanish and ESL teacher in secondary schools and also worked in bilingual corporate settings. Later, I pursued a Master of Arts in Applied Linguistics from Teachers College, Columbia University while working in higher education program administration.

I taught beginning, intermediate and advanced students in the English Language Institute in the School of Professional Studies at New York University for seven years. I also coordinated the Non-Credit Writing Program at the Center for Applied Liberal Arts at New York University’s School of Professional Studies. Recently, I’ve been designing courses, trainings, and language coaching with my colleagues at TASMY Consulting.

When I'm not thinking about languages or language teaching, I enjoy biking around town, running in Central Park, visiting Lake Michigan, cooking, and playing fetch with my dog, Toby.
